Job Posting: Coordinator, Community Programming and Outreach

Literacy Unlimited (“LU”) is a non-profit, English-only literacy centre for adults. Based in the West Island of Montreal, we are dedicated to changing lives through improved adult literacy. For 35 years we have been recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers to tutor adults in reading, writing, numeracy and computer skills. We also provide learner enrichment activities, adult education centre assistance programs, and community outreach and sensitization activities. We strive to empower adults to live more independent and engaged lives by increasing their literacy and reaching their personal, educational or employment goals. 

The Position: 

Literacy Unlimited is seeking a part-time Coordinator for Community Programming and Outreach. Reporting to the Executive Director, and working under the Program Director, the Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of literacy and essential skills group programs and activities in the community and finding opportunities for visibility for the organization. The Coordinator will also support the Program Director in the execution of our one-on-one tutoring program. 

Responsibilities: 

 Coordinate community programming and outreach initiatives: 

o Develop relationships in the community with other non-profit organizations and partners, for the development and execution of community programming and workshops around a variety of literacy topics and essential skills 

o Recruit, interview, train and supervise volunteer workshop animators 

o Develop, and update as required, group workshop plans and content, in tandem with volunteer workshop animator(s) 

 Organize and attend community events/ outreach activities 

 Develop and implement program evaluation procedures, including methods to evaluate impact 

 Keep accurate program records, files and statistics 

 Develop new programs and activities in accordance with the strategic plan 

 Create program content for the website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) 

 Contribute to action plans, annual reports and budgets, and grant applications 

 Support the Program Director in the execution of the one-on-one tutoring programs 

 Anything else deemed necessary as designated by the Executive Director 

Qualifications: 

• Post-secondary degree in Education, Psychology, Community development, or similar field 

• Proficiency in the English language is an absolute must. We are an English literacy centre 

• Teaching experience preferred, especially in the area of adult education 

• Experience in designing course content, workshops and presentations 

• Experience in adult literacy an asset 

• Experience managing volunteers 

• Ability to work independently and with a team of professionals 

• Experience with outreach and visibility activities 

• Strong public speaking and presentation skills 

• Strong organizational and time management skills 

• Experience working in a non-profit organization 

• Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word) 

• Knowledge of Salesforce an asset 

• Knowledge of the West Island an asset 

• French, spoken and written, is an asset 

Additional information: 

• Literacy Unlimited operates from September to June – closed/unpaid July/August 

• 24 hours per week 

• Some evening hours required for scheduled workshops and events. The occasional weekend required for special events or training 

• Car required – this position requires a presence in the community 

• Start Date: March 11, 2019
