1981: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Literacy Unlimited’s begins with literacy activities on the West Island as one volunteer tutors one student.

1982-1990: The first chapter of Literacy Unlimited begins with West Island Reading Efficiency Services formed in Pointe-Claire. This new literacy organization lays the groundwork for the future and applies for charitable status under the name “Literacy Unlimited”.

1992-1993: Literacy Unlimited achieves corporate status.

2001: At the beginning of the new millennium the organization celebrates 20 years in existence, evolving from its humble beginnings to becoming a vital part of the West Island community.

2011: The organization celebrates 30 years of serving the West Island community’s literacy needs. The quality of life of hundreds of adult learners and their families has been improved by the invaluable contributions of the organization and its volunteers.

2014: Literacy Unlimited unveils its new brand identity including its logo and website, both integral to fulfilling its mission as a community organization dedicated to empowering adults through improved literacy.
